The most un-pop-ular bust of all?

"Police wrote Queens hospital worker George Pulido a summons for making unreasonable noise because his son Christopher's Winnie the Pooh balloon popped on the street."

That's dumb. Really, really, dumb.

Hats off to the police

"From Bronx bodegas to Belle Harbor beaches, New Yorkers heartily toasted the NYPD yesterday for making the city the safest it's been in at least 35 years."

So the Daily News says New Yorkers feel safer from crime. How do they know? They asked people. A whopping 100 of them.

"Forty-six people said the city was no-doubt-about-it safer. Only 28 people told The News they don't feel safer. An additional 26 said that things hadn't changed, but most of them feel safe."

Call me when you do a real survey.

Ship of Fools -- Har Har

G.O.P. Option at Convention: Luxury Liner

"'Our floating hotel will provide members an opportunity to stay in one place, in a secure fashion,' said a spokesman for Mr. DeLay, Jonathan Grella. He did not elaborate."

vs.

Terrorists May Use Scuba Divers, Planes (May 24, 2002)

"'Recent information has determined that various terrorist elements have sought to develop an offensive scuba diver capability,' the FBI said in an information bulletin issued by its National Infrastructure Protection Center."

So which is it? Cruise ships are safe or cruise ships are at risk? Talk about putting all of your eggs in one basket.

Pizza bandits make off with dough

"Last week, Tommy’s Pizza Express II on Pennyfield Avenue was robbed, leaving an employee seriously injured."

Talk about a misleading headline. They stole $300, not dough.

Boy Nabbed With Gun in School

"A 12-year-old boy was arrested with a loaded semi-automatic handgun after pointing it at students inside a Queens junior high school yesterday."

Spit balls simply weren't cutting it anymore.

MTA: No Technical Problems in Subway Dragging

"Transit officials said yesterday that they have found no technical problems in a subway car that dragged a woman four feet along the platform Sunday when she caught her coat in the door."

This is my third-worst fear. No sense going into numbers 1 and 2 unless I find a relevant story. By the way, this was one of those new fancy trains. And while I'm at it, read this profile of Charlie Pellett, the guy that did the recordings for those trains. I guess he didn't record anything along the lines of, "Hey Lady. Get your coat out from between the doors so we can leave the station."
